1. What personal information does Brilliant collect?

Personal Information you provide:

Brilliant collects information you voluntarily submit to the Educators Program. In particular:

• Educators: We collect your name, email address, role, and Educators Program information, such as your school name, school email, and website and certain information about your school and students (such as whether they are underrepresented in STEM).
• Students: We collect your name, date of birth, and any content that you submit through the Educators Program (e.g., your responses to questions in our course).

Information we obtain from third parties:

When you link, connect, or log into the Educators Program with an account from a social networking service (such as Google Login), we will receive personal information about you, such as your name and email address, as permitted by your profile settings on the third-party service, in order to authenticate you. The information we receive when you authenticate through a third-party service depends on the settings, permissions and privacy policy controlled by that third-party service. You should always check the privacy settings and notices in the relevant third-party services to understand what data may be disclosed to us or shared with us

Automatic data collection:

We and our service providers may automatically log and store certain information about you, your computer or mobile device whenever you interact with the Educators Program, whether as an educator or as a student, though in certain cases, student accounts will be configured to block such data collection. This information may include your IP address, domain server, and type of Internet browser, information relating to how you interact with the Educators Program, such as the pages you view, the links you click, and how you engage with Brilliant lessons, completion status, and engagement metrics. This information helps us, among other things, analyze trends and administer the Educators Program.

2. What about children?

The Educators Program is available to, and used by, students who are under the age of 16 only with the consent of their parent, guardian, educator, or school. Under the law, in certain circumstances educators or schools may act as the parent's agent for the purpose of consenting to the collection of students' personal information. We do not use personal information relating to students younger than 16 for any marketing or commercial purposes. We do not disclose (within the meaning of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) information relating to students younger than 16

3. How Does Brilliant Use Personal Information?

We use personal information strictly for educational purposes. This includes, to:

• Provide the Educators Program. To perform our contractual obligations with you or when it is in our legitimate business interests, we use your personal information to create and manage educator and student accounts, facilitate lesson planning, deliver educational content, track progress, provide educators with insights into student engagement and learning outcomes, and personalize learning experiences
• Communicate with you about the Educators Program. To perform our contractual obligation with you or when it is in our legitimate business interests, we use your personal information to respond to your inquiries, provide support and communicate with you about the Educators Program, including by sending announcements, updates, security alerts and support and administrative messages.
• Improve the Educators Program. It is in our legitimate business interests to use your personal information to improve the Educators Program and to develop new products, services and features.
• Comply with applicable laws, lawful requests and legal process, and to defend us against legal claims or disputes where it is in our legitimate business interests to do so.

We use student personal information only within the educational context and to provide the Educators Program service. We do not use student personal information for marketing or targeted advertising purposes.

4. Will Brilliant Share Any Personal Information?

We share your personal information as described below, with:

Educators: If you are a student, your educator will be able to access information about how you engage with the lessons your educator has assigned through the Educators Program, such what lessons you have worked on, how long you have engaged with them, and how many lessons you have completed.

Service Providers and Agents: We employ other companies and contractors to perform tasks on our behalf (such as hosting, information technology, user support, email delivery, and website analytics services). Your information may be accessed by such providers/agents, in the event that we need to share your information with them to provide our services or support to you.

Business Transfers: In some cases, we may choose to buy or sell assets. In these types of transactions, personal information is typically one of the business assets that are transferred. Moreover, if Brilliant, or substantially all of its assets were acquired, or in the unlikely event that Brilliant goes out of business or enters bankruptcy, personal information would be one of the assets that is transferred or acquired by a third party. You acknowledge that such transfers may occur, and that any acquirer of Brilliant may continue to use your personal information as set forth in this Educators Program Privacy Statement.

Authorities and Others, such as law enforcement, government authorities, and private parties, where we believe in good faith to be necessary or appropriate to comply with the law or protect our legitimate interests

5. Third Party Websites/Services

The Educators Program may permit you to link to other websites on the Internet, and other websites may contain links to the Educators Program. These other websites are not under Brilliant control, and such links do not constitute an endorsement by Brilliant of those other websites or the services offered through them. The privacy and security practices of websites linked to or from the Educators Program are not covered by this Educators Program Privacy Statement, and Brilliant is not responsible for the privacy or security practices or the content of such websites.

6. Privacy Rights and Choices

Opting out of all future emails

If you would like to stop receiving emails from Brilliant, simply click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of each email.

Student personal information

Educators, parents or guardians can contact us to:

• Request copies of a student's personal information we collected regarding their student/child;
• Direct us to delete the student personal information we collected regarding their student/child; or
• Direct us to stop collecting or using student personal information regarding their student/child.

Additional personal information requests.

We offer additional choices with respect to our handling of personal information relating to educators using the Educators Program. Depending on your location and the nature of your interactions with our services, you may request the following in relation to personal information:

• Information about how we collect and use personal information. We have made this information available to you without having to request it by including it in this Privacy Statement
• Access to a copy of the personal information that we have collected about you. Where applicable, we will provide the information in a portable, machine-readable, readily usable format
• Correction of personal information that is inaccurate or out of date.
• Deletionof personal information that we no longer need to provide the services or for other lawful purposes.
• Appeal our denial of your personal information request by contacting us as set out below.
• Additional rights, such as to object to our processing of your personal information, request that we restrict our use of personal information, and where applicable, you may withdraw your consent to our processing of your personal information
• Right to complain. Depending on where you reside, such as if you reside in the European Economic Area ("EEA") or United Kingdom, you may have the right to complain to a data protection regulator where you live or work, or where you feel a violation has occurred. • To make other requests, please email us or write to us as provided in the "Questions or Concerns" section below. We may ask for specific information from you to help us confirm your identity. Depending on where you reside, you may be entitled to empower an "authorized agent" to submit requests on your behalf. We will require authorized agents to confirm their identity and authority, in accordance with applicable laws. You are entitled to exercise the rights described above free from discrimination

Limits on your choices. In some instances, your choices may be limited, such as where fulfilling your request would impair the rights of others, our ability to provide a service you have requested, or our ability to comply with our legal obligations and enforce our legal rights. If you are not satisfied with how we address your request, you may submit a complaint by contacting us as provided in the "Questions or Concerns" section below

7. Security

We use reasonable organizational, technical and administrative measures designed to protect against unauthorized access, misuse, loss, disclosure, alteration and destruction of personal information we maintain. Unfortunately, data transmission over the Internet cannot be guaranteed as completely secure. Therefore, while we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of personal information.

8. Changes to this Educators Program Privacy Statement

Brilliant may amend this Educators Program Privacy Statement from time to time. Use of information we collect now is subject to the Educators Program Privacy Statement in effect at the time such information is used. If we make changes in the way we use personal information, we will notify you by posting an announcement on our website, or via the Educators Program, or sending you an email. Users are bound by any changes to the Educators Program Privacy Statement when he or she uses the Educators Program after such changes have been first posted.
